Tattoo Aftercare Instructions
Every person and each tattoo—whether it’s colour, black and grey, linework, cover-up, etc.—heals differently. Proper aftercare is essential for healing your tattoo and maintaining its quality. Follow these instructions carefully to prevent infection and ensure the best results.
FIRST 24 HOURS
-
Your artist will cover your tattoo. Keep this wrap on for the recommended time (typically 2–4 hours unless otherwise instructed).
-
Wash your hands – Always wash your hands with soap and warm water before touching your tattoo.
-
Gently clean the tattoo – Remove the wrap and wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap. Gently pat dry.
-
Use a clean, soft paper towel to pat (not rub) the tattoo dry. Avoid using regular towels, as they can harbour bacteria.
DAYS 2–14: HEALING PROCESS
-
Continue washing – Gently wash your tattoo twice a day with mild soap and lukewarm water.
-
Expect peeling and itching – Around days 3–7, your tattoo may begin to flake and itch. Do not pick, scratch, or peel any scabs, as this can cause fading and patchy healing.
-
Avoid soaking – Do not submerge your tattoo in water (no swimming, baths, or hot tubs) for at least 2–3 weeks. Showers are fine.
-
Protect from sunlight – Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight. Once healed, apply sunscreen (SPF 30+) to prevent fading.
-
Wear loose clothing – Tight clothing can rub against your tattoo, causing irritation and slowing the healing process.
-
Moisturise sparingly – Apply a thin layer of your chosen aftercare product in the morning and at night. As the tattoo begins to dry out, apply more as needed. Speak to your artist about our current aftercare recommendations.
